چکیده

We introduce a novel solid modeling framework taking advantage of the architecture of parallel computing onmodern graphics hardware. Solidmodels in this framework are represented by an extension of the ray representation — Layered Depth-Normal Images (LDNI), which inherits the good properties of Boolean simplicity, localization and domain decoupling. The defect of ray representation in computational intensity has been overcome by the newly developed parallel algorithms running on the graphics hardware equipped with Graphics Processing Unit (GPU). The LDNI for a solid model whose boundary is representedby a closedpolygonalmesh canbe generated efficientlywith thehelp of hardware accelerated sampling. The parallel algorithm for computing Boolean operations on two LDNI solids runs well on modern graphics hardware. A parallel algorithm is also introduced in this paper to convert LDNI solids to sharp-feature preserved polygonal mesh surfaces, which can be used in downstream applications (e.g., finite element analysis). Different from those GPU-based techniques for rendering CSG-tree of solid models Hable and Rossignac (2007, 2005) [1,2], we compute and store the shape of objects in solid modeling completely on graphics hardware. This greatly eliminates the communication bottleneck between the graphics memory and the main memory. © 2010 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Layered Depth-Normal Images: a Sparse Implicit Representation of Solid Models

This paper presents a novel implicit representation of solid models. With this representation, every solid model can be effectively presented by three layered depth-normal images (LDNIs) that are perpendicular to three orthogonal axes respectively. The layered depth-normal images for a solid model, whose boundary is presented by a polygonal mesh, can be generated efficiently with help of the gr...

From an Image Sequence to a Recognized Polyhedral Object

We describe the combination of several novel algorithms into a system which obtains visual motion from a sequence of images and uses it to recover the 3D geometry and 3D motion of polyhedral objects relative to the sensor. The system goes on to use the recovered geometry to recognize the object from a database, a stage which also resolves the depth/speed scaling ambiguity, resulting in absolute...

Voxelized Minkowski sum computation on the GPU with robust culling

We present a new approach for computing the voxelized Minkowski sum (excluding any enclosed voids) of two polyhedral objects using programmable Graphics Processing Units (GPUs). We first cull out surface primitives that will not contribute to the final boundary of the Minkowski sum, analyzing and adaptively bounding the rounding errors of the culling algorithm to solve the floating point error ...

Tiling Layered Depth Images

We present a system for modeling and real-time rendering of solid terrains. Using results from the field of tiling, we show how a global 3D texture can be computed for a 2D terrain using a small set of Layered Depth Images. We propose a new set of Wang tiles that are shown empirically to tile the plane without apparent periodic structure. Furthmore, we introduce a new imagebased data struture: ...

Numerical Modeling of Two-Layered Micropolar Fluid Through an Normal and Stenosed Artery

In the present work a two fluid model for blood flow through abnormally constrictedhuman artery (stenosed artery) has been developed. The model consists of a core region of suspensionof all erythrocytes assumed to be micro-polar fluid so as to include the micro-structural effects inaddition to the peripheral-layer viscosity effects, and a peripheral plasma layer free from cells of anykind of Ne...
